Volume That Moves the Way You Do

Restylane is a family of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used to restore lost volume, define facial contours and soften lines, with results you can see the same day. At Eminence Medical Aesthetics, we use Restylane fillers to address thin or asymmetrical lips, flattened cheeks, hollow under-eyes, deepening smile lines and a softening jawline

Here is what separates this line from other fillers, and why your injector may reach for it specifically. Restylane is built on two patented gel technologies rather than one. NASHA gels are firmer and hold their shape, which makes them useful anywhere you want lift and structure. XpresHAn gels are softer and more flexible, so they move with your expressions rather than sitting rigidly under animated skin. That single distinction is why the Restylane brand has nine products instead of one, and it is what allows a lip result to behave differently from a cheek result.

Your Full-Face Assessment

Every filler appointment here starts with our Full-Face Assessment, which considers how your features relate to one another before anyone picks up a syringe. Medical Director Dr. Shawn Yunayev and our licensed nurse injectors each bring a trained eye for facial harmony to that conversation, and sometimes the recommendation is a single syringe somewhere you were not expecting. That approach is part of why Eminence, open in Princeton since 2013, was named to BestofNJ.com’s New Jersey’s Best Medical Spas of 2026.

“The goal is never to make someone look filled. It is to make them look like themselves on a good day. With Restylane, I can place a firmer gel where the face needs support and a softer one where it needs to move, and that is usually the difference between a result people notice and a result people can name.”

—Dr. Shawn Yunayev, Medical Director

Which Restylane® product is right for me?

The right Restylane filler largely depends on the area being treated and how much that area moves. Here is the working logic our injectors use across the nine products approved in the United States. Firmer NASHA gels, chosen for structure and lift:

  • Restylane and Restylane-L for moderate to severe smile lines and folds, and for lips
  • Restylane Lyft for deeper folds, cheek volume, chin profile and volume loss on the backs of the hands
  • Restylane Silk for subtle lip definition and fine lines around the mouth
  • Restylane Eyelight for under-eye hollows, the first product in the U.S. formulated with NASHA technology specifically for that area
More flexible XpresHAn gels, chosen for movement and expression:
  • Restylane Refyne for mild to moderate smile lines where softness matters
  • Restylane Defyne for deeper smile lines and chin retrusion
  • Restylane Kysse for fuller lips that still move naturally, with 78% of clinical trial patients reporting satisfaction at one year
  • Restylane Contour for cheeks, midface and, following a March 2026 FDA approval, hollowing at the temples
You will not need to memorize any of this. Bring your goals and we will map them to the right product.

What areas can Restylane® treat?

Restylane is used across the face and, in one case, the hands. Commonly treated areas at Eminence include:

  • Lips and the fine lines around the mouth
  • Cheeks and midface
  • Under-eye hollows and dark shadows
  • Nasolabial folds, or smile lines
  • Marionette lines at the corners of the mouth
  • Chin projection and profile
  • Jawline definition
  • Temples
  • Backs of the hands
If your concern is skin texture or crepiness rather than lost volume, Skinvive or microneedling may serve you better.

Am I a good candidate for Restylane®?

Restylane is indicated for adults over the age of 21 who are in good general health and want to restore volume or refine facial contours without surgery. It is a strong option if you would like to see a change quickly and prefer something reversible. It is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have a history of severe allergic reactions, or if you have a bleeding disorder or an active infection at the treatment site. Your consultation will cover your full history before your candidacy is confirmed.

How should I prepare for Restylane® injections?

A little planning goes a long way toward a smoother result:

  • Book at least two weeks before any event you care about, so swelling and bruising have time to resolve
  • With your prescriber's approval, pause blood thinners, fish oil, vitamin E and anti-inflammatories for several days beforehand
  • Skip alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment
  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup in the treatment area
  • Let us know if you have a history of cold sores, since lip treatment can trigger a flare and we can plan accordingly

What happens during a Restylane® treatment at Eminence?

Plan on spending 30 to 45 minutes at your appointment. Your injector reviews your goals and photographs the treatment area, then cleanses the skin and applies topical numbing. Most Restylane products also contain lidocaine, so the area continues to numb as treatment progresses. Filler is placed with either a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula depending on the area, and your injector will have you sit up and make expressions partway through to check the result in motion rather than at rest. You will see the change before you leave. Our team's training runs deep here, including through our sister company, Princeton Aesthetics Academy, where we train other clinicians on injectables.

Does Restylane® hurt?

Most people describe it as pressure with brief pinching rather than pain. Topical numbing plus the lidocaine in the product itself does most of the work. Lips are the most sensitive area by a fair margin, and we take extra time with numbing there. If you are anxious about needles, tell us at your consultation. That is a common and reasonable thing to bring up, and there is a lot we can do to make the appointment easier.

Is there downtime after Restylane®?

Very little. Most patients return to work or errands the same day. Expect some swelling, tenderness and possible pinpoint bruising for one to three days, with lips typically swelling the most and settling within about 48 hours. Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and facial massage for 24 hours, sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night and avoid pressing on the area. Your final result settles in over one to two weeks as the filler integrates with the surrounding tissue.

How long do Restylane® results last?

Most patients see results for six to 18 months, depending on the product and placement. Restylane Eyelight lasts up to 18 months in the under-eye area. Restylane Kysse in the lips typically runs closer to a year, since lips move constantly and metabolize filler faster than static areas. Deeper placements with Restylane Lyft in the cheeks or chin tend toward the longer end of that range. Areas with more muscle activity often need touch-ups sooner.

Can Restylane® restore facial volume lost after weight loss?

Often, yes, and it is one of the more common reasons people come to see us lately. Significant or rapid weight loss, including from GLP-1 medications, tends to flatten the midface and hollow the temples and cheeks while the rest of the body responds well. Galderma has specifically positioned the Restylane portfolio for this pattern of facial change. If you are working with our medical weight loss program, we can coordinate timing so your facial treatment supports your progress rather than competing with it.

How much does Restylane® cost in Princeton, NJ?

The cost of Restylane depends on which product is used and how many syringes your plan calls for, which is exactly why we do not publish a flat price. What we can tell you is that your consultation is free, our value-based pricing applies when you treat with one syringe or more, and both membership pricing and financing are available. You will receive a clear written quote before anything is scheduled.

Can Restylane® be dissolved?

Yes. Because Restylane is hyaluronic acid-based, it can be broken down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. That reversibility is one of the main reasons hyaluronic acid fillers are a sensible starting point for your first treatment. It also means small refinements are easy to make, and you are never locked into a result you are unsure about.

What is the difference between Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®?

Both are excellent hyaluronic acid fillers, and we offer both collections, so we have no reason to favor one. The practical difference is in gel behavior. JUVÉDERM gels are smooth and cohesive, and they tend to attract slightly more water, which can mean a fuller look and a little more initial swelling. Restylane offers the firm-versus-flexible split described above, which gives an injector more granular control in areas where movement matters. For a delicate under-eye or an expressive lip, that control is often the deciding factor.

How is Restylane® different from Sculptra®?

These different injectables do different jobs. Restylane adds volume directly, so you leave your appointment already looking different. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that prompts your body to rebuild its own support structure over several months and multiple sessions. Restylane can be dissolved if you change your mind, while Sculptra cannot be reversed on demand. Many of our patients eventually use both, with Sculptra rebuilding the foundation and Restylane refining specific features on top of it.
