Microneedling is a popular treatment that produces microchannels in the skin. These are created with thin needles that penetrate only a few millimeters beneath the skin surface. When this type of controlled wound occurs, the body responds by using the nutrients in blood platelets and lymphatic fluid to accelerate the creation of newer, healthier tissue. The adjacent tissues, undamaged by the needle punctures, act as a blueprint for tissue creation. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy because the healing process includes an increase in the production of collagen in the newly formed skin. Microneedling for acne scars and other forms of skin discolorations such as stretch marks can provide much needed skin rejuvenation that might not be easily achieved with

Consultation Before Treatment

Microneedling for acne scars is a specialized procedure, and the instrument used to produce the microchannels is chosen based on the amount of surface area that needs to be treated and the thickness of the skin. When we consult with a client who has concerns about acne scarring, we take a close look at the discolorations and note their size, the depth of the darkened regions of damaged skin and how dense the damaged tissue is.

How Microneedling for Acne Scars Is Performed

We choose a pen tip that contains needles of the appropriate length and thickness. After the face is washed, we press the pen against the skin where the acne scar is located. The needles prick through the epidermal layer. Our specialist will roll over the targeted areas with the pen, cleanse the skin surface where the controlled punctures were produced, and send the client home with a smile.

It’s that simple. We will likely want to repeat the treatment several times over the next month or so. During each healing period, the new skin tissue is being created, and collagen production also increases in the area where the skin was treated.

Healthier Skin Takes Time

Healthy skin doesn’t form overnight. It’s not like a cut or scrape healing. Controlled puncture wounds fill in with liquid scar tissue, blood and lymphatic fluid. This is the recipe for new skin growth, but the growth itself comes from deeper down in the dermal layers. Slowly, the mid-dermal layer transforms and becomes the new epidermis.

This new surface layer will be rich in collagen and elastin, and it will be smoother and more evenly toned than the damaged skin it replaced. After two or three months, the acne scarring will hardly be noticeable. Some of our clients even experience a complete disappearance of the darkened region. Microneedling can be repeated in the same area of skin if the discoloration ever reappears. It’s a safe treatment that doesn’t produce any side-effects.
