What are Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent cosmetics/cosmetic tattoo treatments involve the esthetician implanting pigment under the skin of the treatment site. The esthetician will use the same kinds of tools and inks as a conventional tattoo artist.

At Eminence Medical Aesthetics, our esthetician can use permanent cosmetics to mimic eyeliner, add contour to the lips, or add thickness and color to the eyebrows. She can also use permanent cosmetics to camouflage scars and other unwanted conditions.

While the pigment used can eventually fade, it can’t be washed off. That’s why the treatments are considered permanent cosmetics/cosmetic tattoo treatments. Permanent cosmetics last years; the exact length of time depends on the location and the type of pigment used.

Why Would Somebody Want Permanent Cosmetics?

There are several reasons for getting permanent cosmetics/cosmetic tattoo treatments. Some clients, for example, are allergic to the ingredients in conventional makeup. Other patients have tremors, vision problems, or other physical conditions that make it difficult for them to apply makeup.

Some people have conditions or take medications that affect their appearance. Chemotherapy patients, for example, suffer hair loss that affects their facial hair, as well as their cranial hair. They often get permanent cosmetics to make it look as if they still have full and dark eyebrows. Permanent cosmetics also have the advantages of never smearing or running.

Preparing for the Procedure

We won’t perform this procedure before a consultation with the client. During this meeting, we can review the client’s health and medical history and then determine whether or not the treatment can realistically work for them.
